ARTIST BIO

Libby Griffiths

I'm a 25 year old practicing artist based in West Yorkshire with a studio based in Halifax, specialising in sculpture.
My work aims to explore aspects of the body that could typically be viewed as imperfect and tackle issues surrounding body image by creating abstract sculptures using primarily plaster. This is often in order to address the issues we face with the relationship with our own body, due to social influence and society’s expectations. The abject is a key reference within my work, often using hair and other features of the body that could be seen as “ugly” or “disgusting”. Although they are just the reality of life it often forces the viewer to feel a certain way when these aspects are realised. These ideas aim to challenge the way we view ourselves and our own bodies, particularly the parts we may in fact be repulsed by.
